Mia's First Year | |
Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us. This page only shows one week's entries. To see older entries, access the archives. I also have plenty of pictures of Mia. Rick's Ramblings BLOG is still being updated. More Rick Umali web sites at:

Saturday, February 16, 2002 I fed Mia Premium Unsalted Crackers after lunch. A good break from the Ritz.
This morning, while trying to place Mia on my shoulders, I hit her head on the low entries-way to our living room. Mia of course started crying. Friday, February 15, 2002 During dinner, we give Mia up to five Ritz crackers, otherwise, she cries and cries in her high-chair. I guess we could just "let her loose" on the floor. Lately, we've been giving her teething biscuits, long, somewhat hard cookies that she could munch on. A few times, she would drop the biscuit, and I would then invoke the 5-second rule (it's not that dirty if I pick it up off the floor within 5 seconds). Wednesday, February 13, 2002 I bought some Valentine's gifts for Mom from Mia. Again, the least I could do. Tuesday, February 12, 2002 With all the finger foods Mia's been eating (she had cut up bananas and baby 'pancakes' (a store bought item, each pancake was the size of a small coaster)), I've been cleaning her high-chair every evening. There are lots of little bits stuck in the crevices of the seat cushion. It's a relaxing post-baby-bedtime ritual for me.
Mia suffered yet another accident in my presence. After I got home, while playing with her on the floor, she tried to crawl from within my lap. She got caught (on my leg, maybe), and she feel straight on her face. When I picked her up, her lip was bloody. Monday, February 11, 2002 Pictures from my parents' last visit (185-188).
Mia's first day back with Mom all day, and it went well. Mia didn't nap extensively, but she wasn't terribly cranky either. I'm always happy to hear news like this. Jenn called me at work a few times, and I could her Mia in the background, coughing, or crying, or making her usual sounds. Sunday, February 10, 2002 Jenn has been serving Mia finger foods the past week now, with good success. Tonight, Mia ate cut up beans, turkey sandwich meat, and cheese. Mia eats these quite well. For a post-dinner treat, she'll work on a whole Ritz cracker. She seems quite good at eating with her hands for now.
Mia's grand parents (i.e. my parents) came over this weekend. It was a fun weekend, with Grand Mom playing and holding Mia most of the weekend. I'll have pictures up soon. Mia's pretty worn out!
